Hey, BAEs! Here's the stuff you requested because you're my favorite. PDF of "Once More to the Lake" PDF of prompt for Last Child in the Woods. (p. 10 of this document) Here are the assignments you'll need to make sure you complete for the Norman Mailer Paret piece. The three of these assignments together will count as a test grade, so you need to make sure you've submitted every single one of them. I will not accept these later than Monday, November 7. 1. First, here's the .pdf of the passage in case you need it. The back of this assignment has the purpose activity for the passage. You do not need to write the entire essay here, but you do need to write 1-2 well-developed paragraphs that make your point. 2. Here are the other two assignments about imagery and violence. Here's the link to the video if you want it. Hey! Here are the two writing assignments for The Crucible that you need to make sure you get submitted by Monday, October 3, at midnight.
Crucible Integrity Discussion (RACE assignment, essentially) Final Crucible Essay Topics: For this assignment you will need to view the presidential debate on Monday, September 26. If you are not able to watch the debate at that time, you will need to find it online afterward. Complete the charts in the documents below citing specific claims and evidence from the candidates' responses to the questions and to each other.
Hola! I just want to remind you of a few things for class, some dates and whatnot.
1. Many of you didn't turn in your discussion questions for United 93. Click here for the document. 2. You need to finish your Updike A&P Questions. Here's the short story. Here are the questions. These are due Wednesday, 9/21, and they're a TEST GRADE. 3. Your Crucible double-entry journals are due on Friday, 9/23. They will also be a TEST GRADE. 4. Your major Crucible essay is due on Friday, 9/30. This essay will be the final TEST GRADE for the quarter. 5. This week you will be completing a personal anecdote. Here's the document for that. It'll be due Wednesday at the end of class. 6. This week you will also be working on a writing assignment for The Crucible. Here it is. 7. While we're at it, here's the dashes worksheet that we will be working with as well. 8. The last day to submit makeup work will be Monday, October 3, at midnight (so you can email it to me if you need to). The last day of the marking period is Wednesday, October 5. One character who changes through the course of The Crucible is Reverend John Hale. Note the changes in Hale's behavior and attitude from each act to the next. Now, using a digital presentation tool (NOT POWERPOINT), trace Hale's character development through the play. Be sure to organize this development by act.
This assignment is due by September 30 and will earn you a handsome amount of extra credit.
As I mentioned to you in class, I've been noticing that many of you are having issues with run-on sentences and fragments in your writing. You need to write down (yes, you have to hand-write it) everything from these notes and turn them in for a grade. And you should check out the videos below. They can help make sense of those pesky run-ons and fragments that creep into your writing!
For the next few weeks, we will be reading and studying Arthur Miller's The Crucible. We will be reading the first two acts together in class and watching the film for the last two acts. You will have two major assignments (as well as a small handful of minor assignments) to complete:
1. Double-entry journal. Here is the template for the DEJ. Check out this example of an awesome one (and don't plagiarize it!). You will need entries from all 4 acts of the play (even though we are only reading the first two together), so you will have some time in class to read acts 3 and 4 and pull evidence from each of those acts for the journal and the essay. 2. Analytical essay about The Crucible. We will have time to work on this in class. You will be selecting one of these three essay topics for your paper. Definitely check out the essay topics and have them in mind as you are collecting your evidence for your DEJ. If you choose great evidence and provide awesome commentary, the essay itself will be easy. Here are the audio for the play and the movie if in case they will help you:
Happy reading!
