Today we spent the entire class period in the media center conducting a website evaluation and learning about research tools that you'll be able to use as you embark upon your assignment for your semester exam.
Tomorrow and Thursday we'll be in the media center for half of the period doing research. You should at minimum know which of the four challenges for the essay you plan on writing about. You can get to the HVJ Media Center site by clicking here. Also, don't forget about the amnesty period! Hello, everyone! I'm not going to announce this in class because I want you to be diligent about checking the class website. You will have an amnesty period for your grades at the end of next week. During this two-day period, you will be allowed to turn in any missing assignment from this marking period without incurring a late penalty.
You need to go on PowerSchool to check your grade and see if you have any missing assignments. You may email me to get the assignments. I will not talk about this amnesty period during class or give you assignments during class. If you have questions or want clarification about the amnesty period, email me. If you're getting notes on your essay feedback about verb tense, you might want to check out this video above. It's only about a minute long, and if your brain is better at math than it is at grammar, this might help you out.
Happy verb-tensing! (Also, you have a vocabulary quiz tomorrow on the unit 10 words.) Today in class we reviewed the PASTA strategy and the RACE Strategy for answering constructed response questions. For help with the RACE strategy, you may want to watch the video below. After that instruction and review, you wrote the rhetorical analysis in-class essay for the passage "America Needs Its Nerds." Tomorrow we will look at the sample essays from College Board and you'll complete your self and peer assessment of your papers. 1st block--We had very little time in class today because most of you had to go attend the Junior meeting. We did manage to get through your vocabulary words for unit 10. You will have a quiz on those words on Friday.
4th block--We did a lot of housekeeping in class today. You:
Next week we will begin working on the paper that will count as your semester exam grade. Click here (or go to DuPont Challenge under the AP Language tab of this site) to learn more about the essay contest.
Have a great homecoming weekend! Have fun and be safe! Yo! Today in class you received your Unit 9 vocabulary words. You will be having a quiz on those words on Friday.
First period--we discussed the independent reading list, wrote the vocabulary words, and you did the second section of the AP multiple choice section. Tomorrow you'll be attending a guest speaker presentation. Wednesday is the PSAT, so about half of you will be taking the PSAT while the other half stay in our classroom with Mr. Sidney. Fourth period--you wrote your vocabulary words and listened to the second episode of the Serial podcast. |
